Welcome

Welcome. We at MOVP are an organization based in Parkersburg, WV that took root in the days following the 2004 Presidential Election. Although we are a very recently founded group, we have far reaching plans to be a force for change both locally and nationwide. Please check back often, as this site will be updated frequently with information about group meetings and planned events.

Greetings from London
Hello and welcome MOVP Bloggers! Glad to see that we current, former and (absent) locals have a place to share our ideas for the better of our "democratic" society. I look forward to hearing from you all! David Daniels (London, England)

Networking
It is great to have a variety of forums, where we can share views and exchange feedback with fellow progressives. Many of us worked tirelessly and unceasingly, giving our hearts and souls to the campaign last fall, to ensure a certain Democratic victory that was, sadly, not to be. After the devastation of November 2, I was seriously tempted to "hide under a rock," because I experienced such an empty and real void - It was as if somebody near and dear to me had died, and I knew that there was no way for me to ever heal from the defeat. For some time, I did not want to interact with anybody, because even talking about our losses made the pain so much worse and real. But I also know that the Democratic Party does not function by hiding its head in the sand, because our purpose and goals are grounded in caring for the needy, homeless, poor, oppressed, sick, naked, and abused of human kind. Unlike the hypocritical and so- called "religious right," which is anything but, we Democrats practice what we preach. We know and believe that faith without works is dead, and so we must pull ourselves up and forge ahead. While the narrow-minded members of the "conservative" (and I use that term loosely) group are busy attacking and occupying other Nations, draining America's economy dry, phasing out every essential, vulnerable, and compassionate program within reach, denying health care for our own citizens, and stealing wealth and oil supplies from weaker, third world countries, we Democrats are exploring ways to protect critical social programs and the environment. "...for what you do for the least of these, you also do for me." The current administration is committed to empire-building and controlling America by fear, while they strategize ways to eliminate the middle and working class in this country. But Jesus tells us, "Be not afraid," and I don't recall ever reading anything in the Bible about surrounding oneself with wealth and power-hungry people. Now is the time for those of us who really care what happens in the future of this country to reach out to others with the same vision and focus. By networking, sticking together, and expanding our reach, we will regain control of this Nation and, once again, turn it blue.

Welcome to The Surface
Thanks for pointing us here Rhonda and thanks to all the progressives in Ohio who are building a resistance movement inside the "heart of the beast." Speaking from outside the U.S. I assure you that we all need a strong resistance inside the U.S. to the wrong-headed ugliness that has uprooted the American Dream and created a Worldwide Scream in its stead, The nightmare in Iraq has become a horror for both the Iraqi people and for the grunts in your armed forces. And in the midst of that your President stands astride Iraq like a vacuous and cold hearted bandit aiming one six-shooter to his right at Iran and the other to his left at Syria. Without a concerted effort by progressives inside the United States this year 2005 is going to be a bloodbath. So welcome to the surface of the resistance movement. Be well... work hard... you are far from being alone.

Unbelievable
Just like millions of others throughout the world these days, it seems that I spend a lot of time, listening to, reading, and watching various media sources. I'm nearly desperate for something (anything) positive to happen with our grassroots efforts. I relish every progressive morsal and can hardly wait for more. I keep thinking (perhaps I'm simply hoping?) that my extreme and overwhelming feelings of frustration, aggravation, despair, hopelessness, and even anger towards the lies and deceptions delivered daily by the current administration will eventually diminish...or at least become bearable. But nothing is changing. As time passes and Dubya and company amass more and more control and power over this country and others, I see divisions created that directly impact friends, families, coworkers, and neighbors. There are the Bush supporters, and there are those who cringe at the very sound of his voice. While he is touring other countries, demanding a worldwide acceptance of Democracy - "preaching" dictatorship strategies - the United States population and its ideals are collapsing. In a news blurb last night, there was a discussion about the serious weaknesses in and failures of the "No Child Left Behind" program. Teachers in red states are now complaining that Bush and his administration simply do not consider every significant issue, when they force the agenda for this program into the education system and individual schools. In the same breath, these teachers were talking about how wonderful a President Mr. Bush is. Go figure. This is a group of (supposedly) well-educated adult people, and they are still lauding Dubya's wisdom and presence, while at the same time, they are losing precious funding for their institutions. Now I'm thinking, no wonder the schools in red states are failing - any halfway educated adult (let alone a teacher) should have long since been enlightened about Bush and his educational endeavors.
